Had the pleasure working with Clay Smith in discussing best course of action for several huge oaks near the house. His suggestions were less expensive than cutting down trees which is what I thought I wanted. Then Alex and his crew did an incredible job knocking out the big projects and many smaller ones. When they left all that remained was the Bobcat tracks and some sawdust. Could not be happier to have found Southern Star. Highly recommend.
I had a very tall, old sweet gum tree in my backyard that I needed removed due to a new fence being put in. Austin and his team were prompt, professional, and friendly and did a great job safely removing the tree and cleaning up after themselves. I highly recommend their services!

Southern Star Tree removed several of our trees and did an outstanding job. They were punctional and arrived promptly when scheduled. They were clear during the fee estimate process and they provided fair and knowledgeable quotes. They were honest when assessing which trees should be removed and which shouldn’t be. They also were very careful not to damage our yard or landscape. I highly recommend them for your tree cutting needs.
Austin Reed's guys did a great job- we had 7 guys working on 4 trees. I spent a lot of time with them pointing out limbs I needed trimmed etc. They were very polite, hard workers, and the place was spotless when they finished. Outstanding service!
I can’t Say enough or give any more positive feedback than what I can write down, but I wish I could. This company is amazing and Michael is such a gem. His team brought two different crews to cut down 13 massive trees in incredibly difficult positions on our property. They started in the rain and had the entire project done in two days. The communication and customer service was incredible, and the emotional support was even better…On Two separate occasions, Mike had to talk my husband and me down from panic attack attacks. He was absolutely wonderful. He kept reiterating to us that if anything got damaged on the property, the company would fix it. He even knew that we had just put down $1000 worth of fresh pine straw, so his team replaced the pine straw in the area that was affected. They did a fantastic job of cleaning up the entire property from any debris from the project. The pricing is incredibly fair and competitive. We hope we don’t need Southern Star anytime soon ?, that would mean more trees have to go, but if we were to need to in the future we will absolutely be calling Mike.
Austin and his team did an absolutely incredible job removing a partially fallen tree in our backyard that required deft coordination and extreme care to ensure it was carefully extracted without damaging a critical part of our property's structure. They took immense effort at every stage to optimize the success of the operation and it went extremely smoothly. We are forever grateful to them for how well it went and couldn't recommend them more highly to anyone looking for tree removal.
I knew it wasn't going to be easy to remove a large white oak that overhangs the house. With a house built on a steep pitch and the tree 80' feet or more from the street, it wasn't IF a crane was needed, but WHAT crane will do the job. The company owner, Austin, has a terrific working knowledge of available cranes. I'm saying this as a descendant of my grandfather who holds the patent for the modern crane out of the Manitowoc company. The crew showed up just as the rain was starting, but didn't flinch and worked through the wet and windy morning. It was cleaner when they finished than the amount of debris I can usually expect from the tree during a storm. I took bids from 3 other companies and Southern Star Tree was not the lowest nor the highest; but his crew is as competent and professional as company with the highest quote I received. I have needed tree service involving cranes several times in the 30 years I have been at my current residence and I would recommend Southern Star Tree for anyone in need of tree service. My only regret is that I couldn't sit and watch the entire process due to the rain. The company carries $5M of liability insurance in case there is a problem--probably very few claims, if any, against it.
Southern Star is my tree team on speed dial. They are reasonably priced, fast & responsive. Clay & Chris are great. They've cleared multiple trees - including a giant sweet gum surrounded by pine trees we wanted to keep - in our backyard. As well as pruned some trees in our front yard. Will continue to use them!
Southern Star Tree Service was absolutely amazing! After three large trees fell on my house this past Saturday, I was overwhelmed and didn’t know where to start. They showed up quickly, assessed the situation with calm professionalism, and got right to work. Their crew was efficient, courteous, and incredibly skilled. They removed the trees safely and with great care, making sure not to cause any further damage to my property. They even cleaned up thoroughly afterward, which I truly appreciated during such a stressful time. I can’t recommend Southern Star Tree Service enough—they were a lifesaver in an emergency and went above and beyond from start to finish. Austin, Alex and the team at Southern Star were amazing. Gave a quote on day of my call, with a visit to the house. Price was fair and the large team of tree experts were professional and helped with on site decisions. They will be our tree guys from here on! Thank you SST!! Just want to update my review. The guys came out for a re-trim when I realized some dead limbs were missed. Called Austin and he sent the team right over. Great service.
Austin was incredibly helpful and responsive. He showed up same day to assess the massive tree that fell on our house & garage. He sent a crew the next day of at least 10 people, multiple trucks, Bobcats, and a crane. They were professional and careful and clean. They sent someone to grind the stump the next day and it looks amazing. Austin knows exactly how to handle insurance claims which was very helpful. Highly recommend!
Our family’s favorite maple tree came down during a late evening weekend storm. We awoke to the damage on Sunday morning. Mark Callahan responded to us at 7:45am Sunday morning and had a 7-person crew at our house just over 24 hours later. The urgency was important to avoid further damage. The crew was professional, respectful, and were helpful to our neighbors, who also sustained damage from the tree. The crew even heeded my request to be very careful with our adjacent shrubs. They did a really fantastic job - exceeded expectations. We are so sad about the tree, but appreciate the quick turnaround, careful crew, and reasonable price.
All around 5 stars for Southern Star Tree Services. From the moment I connected with Austin he was professional, knowledgeable, and proactive. We had a HUGE 200-year-old Poplar that was in the front of our building sandwiched between power lines and our condo building with very limited access for the crew to remove and they were able to remove in one day at a competitive price. Being right off Peachtree street in a very heavily trafficked neighborhood Austin was able to coordinate with Georgia Power and save us time and money by providing extra crew, starting early AM, and completing the job in one day. I truly do not know how they did it! Austin and Justin and the whole crew were a pleasure to work with. Incredibly nice, hardworking, friendly, and professional would highly recommend for any tree removal, etc needs!
We have hired Southern Star Tree Service on two occasions, most recently when we needed two pine trees removed in the front yard. Austin gave us a fair quote, as compared to others; Nathan and the team showed up on time and quickly got the job done with no damage some other nearby prized trees in your yard; Sergio was next to remove the trees and debris - quickly removed, even raked up the yard; Bart came next to grind the stumps with his remote controlled grinder, which grinds way down below the surface and we we will be able to replant in those areas soon. This team is always a pleasure to work with, did a great job, professional and friendly, and will continue to use them if we need anything done in the future. Totally recommend them! — which we have done already as a family member is looking for help with trees.
We had Southern Star Tree Service take down and remove five Sweet Gum trees in our back yard. Mark and his team were great and an absolute pleasure to work with! He walked us through the entire process before presenting us with a quote and explained every aspect of the job. For a detailed person like me, this was great! He took time to answer all of our questions and made sure we were comfortable with everything before the work started. The team showed up on time and finished the job promptly. We just had a large cedar tree removed by Southern Star Tree. They did a fantastic job. They came in with a large crew, removed part of my fence, worked around our blueberry bushes and put it all back just the way they found it. We thought that they were super affordable, very professional and fast! I'd highly recommend them and will definitely be using them for future tree removal needs.
Neighbors and us were both looking to have some trees removed. For us it was #1 priority to keep the price down. They were the cheapest service we found for the number of trees we needed removed and kept the price better for them only have to do one large job rather than two. After already quoting us we discovered two more diseased trees and Austin came out that next day to quickly assess them for price as well. Was a bit frustrating playing middle man to coordinate GA Power taking down power lines based to both companies’ availability but they were very quick to make it happen when small windows of sunny weather popped up. Would definitely recommend based on quick, responsiveness, and price.
Worked with Austin and his crew during this crazy busy time. He came out to meet with us and made sure that we would be absolutely happy before payment. We were flexible on schedule so we were happy to fit in whenever it was convenient. His crew cut down two trees under 6" and trimmed some very high branches. Hauled away and chipped all pieces. The crew was fantastic. Fast, polite, good spirited and were very respectful of plantings and neighbor's yard. Really I can't recommend them enough. Even went back up a tree to trim a dead branch after things were packed up. Would gladly work with them again.
We had four of our mature trees trimmed today by Southern Star Tree service so we can keep our beautiful trees healthy and dead limbs from falling. Austin and his crew were very professional and very personable. The crew were mindful of my shrubs and flowers and the clean up was spot on. I’ve already given two of my neighbors recommendations for Southern Star Tree service and will call again when needed in the future.
Southernstar was prompt, efficient and did a great job. Removal of the tree required that they go down a steep hill and across my back yard. When they finished I couldn't even tell they had been there. Very professional.
The bid I got from Austin at Southern Star was one of the more competitive quotes I received, while the professionalism seemed much higher than others I had shopped. I hired the crew and they showed up on time and got right to it. On this job there were 8 crew members. A bobcat, chipper and big truck to carry stuff. They made quick wok of the widow-makers and did it Safely without damaging themselves, or any of my brick retaining walls. they cleaned up nicely and all the logs were gone within a few days. After shopping extensively for a very dangerous and expensive need. These guys were my best choice. I am glad I went with them. Austin and his crew run an A+ operation. Thanks guys!
Wow! I don’t write reviews often as usually I am not impressed with a company’s level of service and value. At Southern Star Tree Services you get both top notch service AND incredible value. Southern Star Tree Service did an excellent job trimming up our overgrown trees. The company was efficient, professional, and very reasonably priced. All the remaining debris was cleaned up nicely. We were very impressed with Southern Star Tree Services and would highly recommend them.
